NGO extends help to impoverished tribal children for studies
THANE: It has been 65 years since India got Independence. However, many in our country are still deprived of the right to education owing to their poor economical background.
For the last four years, Vidyadan Sahayyak Mandal, an NGO formed by several Thane residents have been
adopting the tribal children from Shahapur district and funding for their education.
The NGO celebrated its fourth anniversary with these children on August 15.
The volunteers of the NGO adopted the parenting responsibility of one child and funds education for the child.
More than 300 students from Shahapur had assembled at the Khade School in Shahapur on the occasion.
“This year we have helped 64 students to fulfil their education dreams. We have organised many personality workshops for these students in these four years. We keep a complete progress report of the students whom we adopt.
“We also help them in their emotional and family problems by counselling them,” said Satyajit Shah, one of the volunteers.
Vrushal Londhe, one of the students said, “I scored 85 % in SSC examinations. However, my parents could not afford my college and higher education.
“I wanted to pursue engineering as my career option. I came in touch with this NGO who made arrangements for my education and residence in Thane.
“I am now pursuing production engineering and topped the first year with 84 %.”
Most students who were benefited by the organisations are also helping to search more students like them and help them get in touch with these organisation.
Ganesh Shirke, another student, added, “For five years since class 9, I took advantage of the facilities provided by this organisation.
“Those who adopt us help us in many ways, constantly keeps in touch through telephones or personal visits to solve our problems and also encourages us to follow our dreams. I have decided to work for the organisation and keep this tradition going for many years to come.”

गरिबाघरच्या गुणवंतांना ‘विद्यादान’चे साहाय्य..!
वर्धापनदिनी कृतज्ञता आणि गुणगौरव

प्रतिकूल परिस्थितीतही जिद्द आणि मेहनतीच्या बळावर शालान्त परीक्षेत ऐशी-नव्वद टक्के गुण मिळविणाऱ्या विद्यार्थ्यांच्या पुढील उच्च शिक्षणाचा मार्ग निर्धोक व्हावा, यासाठी प्रयत्न करणाऱ्या ठाण्यातील विद्यादान साहाय्यक मंडळ या संस्थेचा चौथा वर्धापन दिन बुधवारी शहापूर येथे साजरा झाला. ‘लोकसत्ता'मधील एका बातमीवरून प्रेरणा घेऊन स्थापन झालेल्या या संस्थेचा कार्यविस्तार दिवसेंदिवस वाढत असून सध्या संस्थेकडे १३१ दाते आहेत आणि ८० हून अधिक विद्यार्थ्यांनी यंदा शिक्षणासाठी मदत मागितली आहे.
भाऊ नानिवडेकर, सत्यजीत आणि गीता शहा यांनी चार वर्षांपूर्वी सात देणगीदारांसह विद्यादान साहाय्यक मंडळाची मुहूर्तमेढ रोवली. पहिल्याच वर्षी आठ विद्यार्थ्यांना मंडळाने ५० हजार रुपयांची मदत दिली. आता वर्षांगणिक संस्थेकडे मदत मागणाऱ्या विद्यार्थ्यांची आणि दात्यांची संख्या वाढत आहे. बुधवारी शहापूरमधील खाडे विद्यालयात झालेल्या समारंभास ३०० विद्यार्थी, पालक आणि कार्यकर्ते उपस्थित होते. मंडळाचे विश्वस्त अरुण शेठ यांनी विद्यार्थ्यांना मार्गदर्शन केले. त्यानंतर काही विद्यार्थी, पालक आणि कार्यकर्त्यांनी अनुभवकथन केले. दुसऱ्या सत्रात नगर जिल्ह्य़ातील स्नेहालय संस्थेच्या गिरीश कुलकर्णी यांची मुलाखत गीता शहा यांनी घेतली.
गेल्या वर्षी १३१ दात्यांनी ९ लाख ५० हजार १७ रुपये दिले. त्यातून बी.ई. ते एम.बी.ए.पर्यंतच्या ६४ विद्यार्थ्यांना विद्यादान मंडळाने ८ लाख १४ हजार १७० रुपयांची मदत दिली.
सध्या शालान्त परीक्षेपर्यंत विद्यार्थ्यांना फारसा खर्च येत नाही. गरीब विद्यार्थीही प्रतिकूल परिस्थितीतही त्यावर मात करून चांगले गुण मिळवितात. मात्र उच्च शिक्षण घेताना पैसा अनिवार्य ठरतो. त्यामुळे गुणवत्ता असूनही गरीब विद्यार्थी त्यापासून वंचित राहतात. केवळ पैशाअभावी गुणवत्ता मागे पडू नये म्हणून विद्यादान सहाय्यक मंडळ प्रयत्न करते. सामाजिक बांधिलकीच्या भावनेतून आर्थिकदृष्टय़ा दुर्बल घटकांतील हुशार मुलांना यथाशक्ती मदत करावी, अशी अनेक नागरिकांची इच्छा असते. विद्यादान साहाय्यक मंडळाने अशा दात्यांना एक व्यासपीठ उपलब्ध करून दिले. या मंडळाच्या वतीने विद्यार्थ्यांना वार्षिक २०० ते ५० हजार इतकी मदत देणारे अनेक दाते आहेत. दहावी उत्तीर्ण झालेल्या विद्यार्थ्यांची आवड आणि कल पाहून त्यांना पुढील शैक्षणिक वर्षांसाठी मदत मिळवून दिली जाते. संस्थेच्या सभासदांवर ठरावीक विद्यार्थ्यांची जबाबदारी सोपवून त्यांच्या अभ्यासाच्या प्रगतीचा आढावा घेतला जातो. दरवर्षी १५ ऑगस्ट रोजी वर्धापन दिनानिमित्त विद्यार्थ्यांचे कौतुक केले जाते. केवळ शैक्षणिक मदतच नव्हे तर त्यांच्या व्यक्तिमत्त्व विकासासाठीही संस्था विविध उपक्रम राबविते. दरवर्षी संस्थेकडे शिक्षणासाठी मदत मागणाऱ्या विद्यार्थ्यांची संख्या वाढत आहे. संस्थेविषयी अधिक माहितीसाठी संपर्क- सत्यजीत शहा-९८२११५०८५८.
